Payment scan works but gets declined — why?
Usually your issuing bank blocking the transaction, not the app. Call your bank before traveling to enable cross-border transactions and 3D Secure.
Step by step
- 1Read the error message carefully: 'declined by bank' → call your bank. 'Verification needed' → re-link the card. 'Account restricted' → see the restriction guide.
- 2Call your bank's international number and ask them to enable: cross-border transactions, online transactions, 3D Secure.
- 3Turn off VPN — some banks flag VPN-assisted transactions as fraud.
- 4For amounts over ¥200, a ~3% fee applies. Some banks decline if they classify this as a cash advance — confirm transaction type with your bank.
- 5Try linking a second card as backup and test with that.
Common mistakes
- !Don't retry the same failed payment more than 2–3 times. Repeated failures can trigger your bank's fraud protection and lock the card temporarily.
- !American Express often fails — switch to Visa or Mastercard.
