WeChat Pay not showing / unavailable

What's happening

WeChat Pay is a feature inside WeChat, not a standalone app. It only appears once you've set it up: link a bank card in WeChat → the 'Pay' option unlocks. If you registered but never added a card, 'Services' → 'Wallet' won't show payment options.

Steps to fix it

  1. 1Open WeChat → Me → Services → Wallet → Bank Cards → add your foreign Visa/Mastercard.
  2. 2Complete the card binding (this is the same passport-verification + 3D Secure flow as Alipay — see the card-linking guide if it fails).
  3. 3Once a card is linked, 'Pay' appears under the '+' menu and in 'Services'.
  4. 4If Wallet doesn't appear at all, your WeChat region may be set wrong — log out, change region to the country matching your phone number, and re-add the card.
  5. 5Update WeChat to the latest version if Wallet is still missing.

  • •Use Alipay as your primary — it's more straightforward for tourists.
  • •Cash until WeChat Pay is unlocked.
